Widespread Verizon Outage Disrupts Service Across California and the U.S.

Verizon customers across the U.S. are facing issues making calls on Monday due to a major service outage, as reported by Downdetector, a website that monitors outages in popular services. The site recorded a significant spike in reports starting around 8 a.m.

According to Downdetector’s heat map, the outage is affecting areas from San Francisco to New York, with reports coming from various regions nationwide. While the number of incidents decreased after a few hours, many users still report having no service.

Verizon spokesperson Ilya Hemlin confirmed the situation in an emailed statement to SFGATE: “We are aware of an issue impacting service for some customers. Our engineers are actively working to quickly identify and resolve the problem.”

Hemlin did not provide details on the extent of the outage or an estimated time for restoration.

For iPhone users, the outage may result in phones entering “SOS” mode, allowing only emergency calls to 911. Until service is restored, users are encouraged to connect to a Wi-Fi network to send messages and make calls via Wi-Fi.
